HOW TO CREATE GREAT CONTENT ONLINE?

This particular video blog is a reflection of my experience after completing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). I completed an online MOOC on “How to create great online content” by University of Leeds. This MOOC was a two week learning course with 3 hours of weekly study.

Hello and welcome to my personal development blog!


I am a content creator and run a travel blog on Instagram. I chose this Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) because I wanted to further expand my knowledge on creating great online content.


Before I took this course, I never followed a content creation strategy or plan. I never realized the importance of it until I took this course. You see content creation is an interactive cycle that is only successful if the crowd approves it. If the insights and analytic numbers are high, that means the content created was actually great if not then there is still some space for improvement.


The best part about this course was learning how to create a content calendar. Another benefit of taking this course was that it was short and concise and gave me the knowledge and information I was looking for in a short span of time. However, there was one drawback about this course. The language and social media marketing jargons that they used in the course were a bit difficult to understand.


I enjoyed the content calendar part the most because it was easy to understand and I could implement it for my own blog. It is something I always wanted to learn but did not pay attention to because I thought it would be difficult and time consuming. Because of the jargons being used in the course, I always had to do my own research or refer to other reading material that I found on google. This also turned out to be a positive experience because if not for the curiosity to know what those things mean, I would not look it up or gain the knowledge that I have now. The mid discussions and quizzes also were quite beneficial but I did not like to be tested as I felt scared I might not be able to solve them.


Towards the end of the course, I was already discovering what makes online content a success and learning how to create engaging content that would be in line for my own travel blog goals and objectives. Following this fourteen-day course, I have taken in the worth of sound planning and strategic organization skills on how to be a successful content creator online. This course showed me how to utilize different online ways and directions to my own advantage.


After I finished the course, I jotted down some action plans for my next review or invite. You can see my action plans in the video where I am capturing content for Doubletree by Hilton. I planned on taking more than one device to capture content for example a professional DSLR camera and the iPhone 11 Camera. I took pictures of the same food items with different angles and techniques. My next plan was using apps like Lightroom and snapseed to edit and enhance the photos. For videos, I planned on using iMovie to edit background noise and adding some music in the videos to make it more interesting to watch. I have implemented my action plans already as you can see in the video and am very happy to have taken this MOOC online which helped to bring out my imaginative and creative style for creating top notch engaging content online.
